Relocation is not provided and travel is required occasionally.

This is a Part-Time position, working 1st Shift, 2nd Shift, 3rd Shift, Weekends, Holidays.

Overview
The City of Owensboro will accept applications for Reserve (Part time) Police Officer position any time during the year. However, this does not mean that we currently have a vacancy. The City is under no obligation to hire if we do have a vacancy, or to process applicants. NOTE: In the event of a full time vacancy, the Chief may consider and select a currently employed reserve officer to fill the vacant full time police officer position.

Job Skills/Requirements
Requirements: All POPS and other police requirements must be met as would be for a full time police officer. Post-offer, pre-employment requirements will be the same as when hiring lateral transfer candidates. Typically, retired Owensboro Police Department officers are considered for these positions. However, the Chief may consider offering such position(s) to any other POPS certified officers from other employers, following the same pre-employment, and post-offer, pre-employment requirements used for the hiring of lateral transfer police officers.



Additional Information/Benefits
There are no full time benefits for this position. It is a part time position.

Reserve police officers will be scheduled less than 100 hr/mo on average. Scheduling is based upon the needs of the department.

Because reserve officers will not be participating in the retirement system, they, unlike full time officers, (1) will not pay into retirement, and (2) will pay into social security. Furthermore, the state incentive check will not be applicable for reserve officers.

Reserve police officers are afforded disciplinary protection as provided for sworn police officers in KRS Chs. 95 and 15.520, after completion of a twelve (12) month probationary period. During the probationary period, the officers are “At-Will” status.



Screening Requirements: Motor Vehicle, Drug Screen, Criminal Background Check, Credit Check, Physical Exam, Reference Checks, etc.
