This job reports to the Sgt. Relocation is not provided and travel is required occasionally. This is a Full-Time position, working 1st Shift, 2nd Shift, 3rd Shift, Weekends. Overview INTERESTED LATERAL TRANSFER APPLICANTS ONLY. The City of Owensboro will accept applications for lateral transfer Police Officer positions any time during the year. However, this does not mean that we currently have a vacancy. Also, the City is under no obligation to hire if we have a current vacancy, or to process applicants.

Job Skills/Requirements INTERESTED LATERAL TRANSFER APPLICANTS ONLY. To be considered for a lateral transfer, applicant must be POPS certified and such certification must be portable, or POPS certifiable and such certification must be obtained without having to attend the DOCJT Basic Training Academy, must currently be full-time peace officer, and have 3 years full time law enforcement experience. Such persons are not required to participate in the competitive testing process.
If considered, and/or if offered a position, prior to hire lateral transfers shall satisfactorily complete the following, but not limited to:
Comprehensive background checks, including references from current and past employers; Oral interview; Post-offer, pre-employment drug screen, physical exam, psychological evaluation (possible), and any other necessary medical evaluations/screenings must be satisfactorily completed.
Additional Information/Benefits EXCELLENT PAY AND BENEFITS. LATERAL TRANSFERS may be brought in at a higher pay level than entry-level officers, depending on years of law enforcement experience (affects pay only, not service years as they apply toward retirement, etc.)
In addition to base pay, may be eligible for state incentive pay through State of Kentucky.
